Clown Shoes Galactica DIPA Review

clown shoes galactic DIPA

The first craft beer review of 2023, and I’ve been waiting to review this one for a while. When I picked up the four-pack I had no idea what I was going to get. Normally I have an idea of what I’m looking for, but in this case, the can art really stood out so I took a chance, and I’m pretty glad I did!

Clown Shoes Galactica Alcohol Content and IBU

Beer: Galactica
Brewery: Clown Shoes
Type of Beer: West Coast Style IPA, Imperial / Double
ABV: 8%
IBU: 86

The Appearance

The appearance is more of a yellow gold than it appears in the image, but copper notes are reflected throughout. The head is very well put together and the lacing on the glass works its way down as the drink is consumed.

The carbonation makes a subtle appearance every now and again.

The Taste

Brewed with Galaxy, Citra, El Dorado, and Mandarina hops, Galactica has a bold flavor profile. At first it can be off putting because of its boldness, but it’s something you get used to the more you drink. There are fruity notes, but the malt balances this out really well. It’s not too overpowering, but those who are used to less robust IPAs might want to ease into this one.

At 8%, it’s a bit boozy, but personally, I love that the profile has a bit of bite to it.

What to Drink With

Given the bold flavor profile of Galactica DIPA, I would say that most of your favorite proteins would pair well. Grilled chicken and BBQ food would be my go-tos. I would even say that given all the cheese I received over the holidays, the strong flavor profile would be a good match for a full-bodied cheese.

Round Up

Galactica DIPA is a drink I would turn to again, but it wasn’t the cheapest DIPA by any means. Clown Shoes brewing are on to a good drink here, and I loved the ambition of the flavor profile. At 8% ABV, I didn’t find it to be too much, but there’s an adjustment to be made for those who may have a lighter palate.

If you’re looking for a flavorful DIPA, Galactica may just satisfy your curiosity.
